Practice Makes Perfect on Orff Instruments

The fourth graders have been working very hard learning and practicing the challenging, Song of Peace for our upcoming Winter Concert in December. Each week students are getting better and better at playing it together as a class. Many students have gone home and downloaded an app called, Marimba that helps them to sing and play the notes of the song at home. If you've heard your student practicing on their iPod, or iPad, you will now know why! :)

This is video of the first time these students put together all 4 parts of Song of Peace.
Very good job, fourth graders!

It's all smiles in the music room after getting to play the Orff instruments
on the brand new rolling stands! :)

About 2 weeks later, much more polished, and sounding AWESOME!!

Veteran's Day Assembly

On November 11th, we celebrated Veteran's Day at Meadow View with an all-school assembly in the gym. The fourth grade students led the ceremony with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner for the school, and then leading all the younger classes with the songs, America the Beautiful, and You're a Grand Old Flag. Job well done to all the students at MDV who sang the patriotic songs so beautifully that afternoon! :)

Third Graders Show Their "Music in Motion!"

Ask your students what Music in Motion, the game is. They will know it well. Music in Motion is a game that we came up with that is a full-body movement and listening game that we play in the music room with the lights off. I play a variety of different notes on the piano. When the students hear low notes being played on the piano, they move their feet to that steady beat. When students hear high notes being played on the piano, they clap their hands to that steady beat. The challenge comes in when they hear both low and high note doing different rhythmic patterns at the same time! It really turns into a fun, and very athletic game in music class! I often say to the kids, "is this music, or is this gym class?" They usually respond by saying, "BOTH!" :)

Dancing Outside in November??

This fall has been filled with the most beautiful and warm weather that I can remember. Since the weather has been so great, I thought it would be perfect for us to go outside and dance! :) The first graders have been learning a dance called, The Chimes of Dunkirk and we went outside on November 3rd, to dance outside in the beautiful sunshine! The kids had a great time, and they kept saying, "it feels like summer out here!"
So much fun! :)
