Learning Rhythms and Reading Music

For the past few weeks the third graders have been learning how to read a variety of rhythms on the music staff in class. Today, Mrs. Steiner's class of third graders were saying and patting out the music written up on the board. They got all the rhythms correcct, and did such a nice job, that I thought I'd take a quick video.

AWESOME job third graders! :)

Charlie Sings to His Ocean Friends

The Kindergarteners have been learning a song called, Charlie Over the Ocean. The song is a fun call and responce game where the students sit in a circle and one person walks around the circle singing while everyone else sings after them. They need to choose a student to tap on the shoulder when they sing, "can't catch me!" A fun catch game ensues around the circle, and the students need to try to get back to the spot before the student catches them.

It's a very fun game, and as you can see the students are really enjoying themselves singing it! :)

Kindergarten Learns How to "Shoe a Little Horse!"

The kindergarteners have been learning a fun song called, Shoe a Little Horse in music class. The purpose of the song is actually has two differnt learning experiences for the students. We also have a fun addition to the song, which the kids just love. A horse! :) First, one person gets to ride the horse and sing the song while they gallop around the circle of their classmates. The second experience happens when they ride the horse around the circle, students have to listen carefully to the piano. The notes played are either low or high, and students have to carefully listen to hear what notes are being played, and then they eithe reach their hands up to the sky for when they hear the high notes, and they put their heads down in their lap when they hear the low notes being played.
This song and game is so much fun to play! Enjoy the video. :)
