Recorder Karate Champions

This is our final week of Recorder Karate for the 4th grade students. Since mid-March we have been working hard on learning and playing the recorder in music class and the students have been doing such a wonderful job! :) Today was their last day to play and earn belts in class, and since there were 19 kids that made it all the way to earning their Black Belt song, Ode to Joy, I thought I should capture them all playing together one last time. I also took a video of the Brown Belt song, Amazing Grace. Enjoy!

Awesome job, 4th grade Recorder ROCK STARS!!! :)

Band-O-Rama Concert

Last night, I went to one of the most impressive concerts that I've ever seen! Band-O-Rama is a very, very large concert made up of ALL the students in grades 5 through 12 who are involved in the band programs in the Oconomowoc School District!

I counted all the students who were playing last night, and I couldn't believe the number...
810 students!!!!!!! :) WOW!!!!!!!!
This is a picture of all the bands, and I took a video of the last song, Stars & Stripes Forever, that everyone played together at the same time! It was so incredibly impressive to watch and hear! I just loved it, and I'm very proud to be a member of the music department here in Oconomowoc!!!

Writing Rhythms in Music

The first grade students have been learning how to write down notes and rests in music class this week. We've been learning how to say and clap out loud Ta's (quarter notes) Titi's (eighth notes) Quarter Rests and Half Notes in music, and writing them out on their small white boards has been very successful. After writing out their own music, they stood up and patted and clapped the own music as a class. :)

Round & Round On the Merry Go Round

Today in music class, the 5K students learned a new song called, Merry Go Round. After learning the song, they added a hula-hoop and colorful scarves part to the song. It added a beautiful picture to the song and the kids loved it, as you can see and hear! :)

5K Little Shoemaker

The 5K students just learned a song called, Little Shoemaker in music class. It's a fun little song that also has a challenging Orff instrument part and a triangle part to it. After learning how to sing the song, the students learned the Orff instrument part first, then we learned the triangle part to play. They have been doing a very good job! :)

Instrument Family Slide Presentations

This week in music, the fourth graders have been presenting their Google Slide Shows on the various instrument families that we've been learning about in music class. Each class was divided into small groups of the Strings, Woodwinds, Percussion, and Brass families.

The groups were in charge of creating their own slides describing their specific instruments and having pictures and videos on their slides to show to their classmates. All of the groups did a very good job with their presentations.

Nice work, fourth graders! :-)
