This week, in honor of Valentine's Day, the first graders started learning a Valentine friendship song in music class. After learning the song, they were able to add a fun partner dance in a circle to the song. Here are a few pictures of the fun! :)
This week in music, the fourth graders have been presenting their Google Slide Shows on the various instrument families that we've been learning about in music class. Each class was divided into small groups of the Strings, Woodwinds, Percussion, and Brass families.
The groups were in charge of creating their own slides describing their specific instruments and having pictures and videos on their slides to show to their classmates. All of the groups did a very good job with their presentations. Nice work, fourth graders! :-)
For the past few weeks, the third grade classes at Meadow View have been learning about the Opera. We've been learning about opera by listening and watching a variety of arias and talking about the different voice/singing types. They are: Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass. MDV students got a special reward after their hard work in music class by getting to attend a real Opera performed by members of the Florentine Opera from Milwaukee, at the Oconomowoc Arts Center. Last week we attended a special opera for young students called, The Billy Goats Gruff, an opera based on the classic fairy tale.
Take a look at the pictures of the fun time that we had last Tuesday afternoon at the Opera!
The fourth graders are currently learning about the instrument families of the orchestra, in preparation for our upcoming field trip to see the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in March! Students have been working hard in small groups with iPad technology to create their own slide shows about each instrument in their groups instrument family. Students have spent the last few classes working on their slide presentations and will be showing them to their classmates next week.
Stay tuned for more pictures from the presentations next week! :)
Yesterday, November 17th, was SUCH a beautiful day outside that I just had to take my music classes outside to enjoy the weather! We just learned the Thanksgiving song, A Turkey Ran Away, and we learned a fun circle tag game that we played with the song. Instead of staying inside we took the song and game outside, to enjoy ourselves even more! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! :-)
Last Friday was November, 11th, Veteran's Day. At Meadow View, we celebrated the day with a school-wide assembly in the gym. The 4th grade Boy Scout troop added to the assembly with their flag ceremony at the beginning and the end of the ceremony. The 4th grade students sang 2 songs, The National Anthem, and This Land is Your Land for the school and parent audience. The entire school then sang together the songs, You're a Grand Old Flag, and America the Beautiful. Miss Delaney Cowles also added a nice touch to the ceremony by playing the song Taps on the piano with Miss Clark. All the students did a wonderful job performing and honoring our veterans.
The 2nd graders at Greenland did a beautiful job playing the Orff instruments and singing the song, Pick a Pumpkin today! I really wanted to share the video so you can see and hear what we've been up to in the 2nd grade music classes so far this year. Enjoy! :)
Today the 1st graders learned a new song and circle dance called, The Pumpkin Dance! They have partners and they do a body percussion game together as they sing the song. Great job 1st graders, and Happy Halloween! :)
